PASAMBAHAN
DANCE
Pasambahan Dance is one of Minangkabau dances that were developed in
different regions of West Sumatera province. This dance is featured in the show
meant to welcome the guests as a welcome greeting and expression of respect and
honor for the guests who had just arrived. Pasambahan dance is displayed for
arrival guests coming from far away or the arrival guests of the bride’s side.
The guests arriving later are pedestrianized with an oversized umbrella in
honor of the guests coming. After Pasambahan dance displayed and the event
continued by treating the betel leaves Carano to the guests. Carano betel leaf
usually is also presented for both parents: the bride’s and the groom’s.
INDANG DANCE
Indang also known as “Badindin”
is one of the Minangkabau dances. The dance is done in groups and usually
accompanied by singing and playing small Rebana (Islamic drum). The dance was
originally intended as a media of Islamic proselytizing which explains the
Islamic themes of the song originated from Muhammad’s prayer. Indang stages are
often done by seven male dancers, which are referred by “anak Indang”. The
dancers use a small Rebana, also known as Indang.
SERAMPANG 12 DANCE:
Serampang 12
Dance is a Malay traditional dance originally from Melayu developed by Sultan o
Serdang. It was created by Sauti in 1940s, and was developed by him again in
1950s-1960s. The first name of this dance is Pulau Sari Dance. The name of
Pulau Sari refers to the its song’s name, Pulau Sari song. According to Teuku
Mira Ray, a dance that preceded the word “island” is usually has tempo rumba,
like Dance Pulai Kampai, and Island Princess. While Serampang XII dance has
fast-paced movements such as Serampang XII Dance in SEA Dancing. The dance is
combination between Malay and Portuguese. We can feel the affection from the
Portuguese from the beauty of movements and the music that leads the dance.
Serampamg XII refers to the range of motion, amounting to XII: the first
meeting, love in sink, burylove, crazydrunk, signaling a sign of love, return
gesture, suspect, still do not believe, escort bride and meeting you. Serampang
XII dance is sacred love story abou male and female who emerged from the first
sight and end with the marriage sanctioned by the parents of the virgin and the
youth.
PLATE DANCE:
Plate dance is
one of the traditional dances originally from West Sumatera. The dance tells
the story about farmer planting crops on the field with happiness and joy being
thankful for the harvest. The dance is
usually performed by 3-7 dancers, men or women. The dancers wear traditional
Minang clothes and carry two saucers on their hands as they dance energetically
along with the music from traditional instruments called Talempong and Saluang.
The dancers move their hands and spin the saucers around while moving and
jumping energetically in intricate formation. The movements require good
coordination between legs and arms to perform harmonically with the music. The
dancers carry saucers as a form of gratitude to God for abundant the crop. The
dance is usually performed on a wedding ceremony or as a welcome dance on a
special occasion.
KIPAS DANCE:
Kipas dance is a dance originated from Gowa society, South Sulawesi.
Some people recognize this dance as a Pakarena Dance that means Playing. This
traditional dance was attached since the existence of Gowa Kingdom in ancient
time. It said that Kipas Pakarena is telling about the farewell of Boting Langi
people (heaven) and Lino people (earth). The movements in this dance is
characterized the delicate Gowa women who faithful, behave, obey, and respect
to husband. The dance consists of 12 parts in every movement, which is not easy
to differentiate. Each move in this dance has different meaning, such as
sitting, spinning, flattering, and so on. Kipas Pakarena has unique rule, where
dancers are not allowed to open their eyes very wide, while the movement of the
legs should not be raised too high. This dance is usually lasts for about two
hours, so the dancers are required to have excellent physical condition to
perform this dance.
